Wielkie Oczy i Rozkoszny Uśmiech

Niezwykłość formy bóstwa Pana Jagannatha nie pozostawia nikogo obojętnym i nadawane jest jej różnorodne znaczenie. Niektórzy twierdzą, że Parabrahman nie posiada formy, a “niedokończona” postać Jagannatha jest na to dowodem. Inni twierdzą, że jest to Budda lub Bhairava. Dla jeszcze innych wygląda ona upiornie lub jest po prostu starożytnym produktem modernistycznej myśli artystycznej.

A Kryszna w formie Pana Wszechświata ujmująco uśmiechając się, zdradza jedynie Swoje kosmiczne poczucie humoru. Istnieją trzy narracje wyjaśniające powody przyjęcia przez Pana tak zadziwiającej formy. Pierwsza opisuje lila króla Indradjumny i Kryszny, który w przebraniu cieśli pojawił się w celu wyrzeźbienia z wielkiej kłody, formy Jagannatha. Druga opisuje lila w Dwarace, gdzie Kryszna i Baladeva podsłuchując pod drzwiami opowieści Rohini o rozrywkach Kryszny we Wrindawanie zastygli w bezruchu, i w stanie wielkiej nostalgii i uniesienia przyjęli niesamowite formy “Wielkich Oczu i Rozkosznego Uśmiechu”. W niniejszej publikacji mamy miejsce jedynie na trzecią historię, a zasłyszaną z ust Gour Govindy Swamiego.

Pewnego dnia, Narada i Uddhava znaleźli Krysznę leżącego nieprzytomnym na ziemi. Przyczyną Jego stanu była tęsknota za Radharani. Narada zdawał sobie sprawę, że gdyby zagrał na vinie i zaśpiewałby o chwałach Wrindawany, to Kryszna natychmiast odzyskałby przytomność i na nic nie zważając, na stałe powróciłby do Wrindawany.
W tej sytuacji, Narada zasugerował, aby Uddhava udał się do Wrindawany i przygotował wszystko na przyjazd Pana. Jednak Uddhava miał wątpliwości czy mieszkańcy Wrindawany uwierzą w Jego słowa. Przecież jego obietnica dana vraja-vasim, że przekona Krysznę do powrotu, nigdy nie została spełniona. Dlatego obaj udali się do Balaramy i poprosili Go o spełnienie tej ważnej misji. Jednakże i On odmówił, jako że przebywając kiedyś dwa miesiące we Wrindawanie, nie udało mu się pocieszyć nawet jednej osoby.

W końcu siostra Kryszny Subhadra zaoferowała swoje usługi. Miała nadzieję, że kiedy już usiądzie na kolanach mamy Jasiody, otrze jej z twarzy krople łez i zapowie rychłe przybycie Kryszny, to wszelki ból doświadczany przez mieszkańców Wrindawany zostanie uśmierzony i już wszyscy razem przygotują wielki powitalny festiwal na Jego cześć. Kiedy wsiadała do powozu, Pan Balarama zdecydował się do niej przyłączyć. Dlatego podczas Ratha Yatry wóz Pana Balaramy jedzie jako pierwszy, a za nim wóz Subhadry i Kryszny.

Narada Muni zaczął grać na vinie… Dźwięk duchowej wibracji delikatnie musnął serce Kryszny, a odzyskawszy przytomność natychmiast przyjął On swoją słynną pozycję tribhanga, rozglądając się za fletem. Z pomocą Narady i Uddhavy udał się w kierunku rydwanu. Będąc pod odurzającym wpływem ekstatycznych myśli o Wrindawanie zataczał się i kołysał w przód i w tył. W czasie Ratha Yatry, Pan Jagannatha będąc niesionym na swój wóz, znajduje się właśnie w takim “chwiejnym” stanie umysłu.

Przybywając do Vrajabhumi, Baladeva i Subhadra doświadczyli nieopisanej i bardzo zaraźliwej intensywności uczucia miłości do Kryszny – uczucia emanującego z serc wszystkich mieszkańców Wrindawany. Na ich ciałach ukazały się symptomy ekstazy – smaku miłości do Boga. W ten sposób, całkowicie zapomnieli o celu swojej misji. Nie tylko nie byli w stanie pocieszyć nikogo z obecnych, ale także nie poczynili żadnych przygotowań na przyjazd Kryszny. Właśnie w takim stanie duchowego i miłosnego zapomnienia się widzimy ich na Ratha Yatrze.
W tym czasie, sparaliżowana bólem rozłąki z Kryszną Śrimati Radharani leżała w zagajniku Nidbhuvan, z głową opartą na kolanach Lalita-sakhi. Otaczało ją grono przyjaciółek. Nikt nie był do końca pewien czy jeszcze żyje, gdyż jej oddech był momentami niezwykle słaby, a innymi razy w ogóle niewyczuwalny. Nawet osoby, które zazwyczaj nie oszczędzały jej słów gorzkiej krytyki i zawsze z nią współzawodniczyły, takie jak Dżatila, Kutila i Czandrawali klęczały w smutku u jej stóp, błagając o wybaczenie.

Dotarłszy do Nidbhuvan, Kryszna z niecierpliwością i w wielkim pośpiechu zeskoczył z rydwanu. “Radhe, Radhe, Radhe! Proszę pozwól mi umieścić Twoje lotosowe stopy na mojej głowie”. Widząc Radharani, Kryszna natychmiast osiągnął stan mahabhavy dla Radhy. Członki Jego duchowego ciała skurczyły się, niczym żółw przyjmujący schronienie swej skorupy. Jego oczy rozszerzyły się i stały się bardzo, bardzo wielkie i okrągłe. Przewracał nimi raz po raz, a na Jego twarzy pojawił się niekontrolowany uśmiech. W tym momencie ponownie zemdlał. Forma Pana Jagannatha jest Kryszną, dokładnie w tej chwili. Jest kłodą drewna pływającą w radha-bhava – najwyższej miłości do Śrimati Radharani.
Orzeźwiająca bryza wiatru delikatnie przeniosła aromat ciała Kryszny w kierunku Radharani, co podziałało na nią niczym leczniczy i wskrzeszający do życia balsam. “Kryszna powrócił…” – wyszeptała jej do ucha Lalita-devi. Wszelkie cierpienia i ból, których tak długo doświadczała, zniknęły w tym momencie z jej pamięci. Pochylając się nad Kryszną, Radharani wyszeptała mu słodko do ucha: “Radhe, Radhe, Radhe…”. Kiedy Pan Kryszna odzyskał przytomność, Jego lotosowe oczy napotkały spojrzenie Jego ukochanej Śrimati Radharani…

Ratha Yatra jest festiwalem powrotu Kryszny do Wrindawany, aby spotkać się ze Śrimati Radharani. Świątynia Pana Jagannatha gdzie rozpoczyna się procesja jest Dwaraką, a świątynia Gundica – docelowy punkt Ratha Yatry – jest Wrindawaną. Pan Caitanya wyjaśnia, że Gundica jest Wrindawaną usytuowaną w naszych sercach. Kryszna nie będzie widoczny w naszym sercu tak długo, jak długo pozostaje ono nieczyste.

Parada wozów

Ratha-Jatra (Parada Wozów) jest starożytnym festiwalem obchodzonym co roku na przełomie lipca i sierpnia przez nieprzebrane rzesze pielgrzymów w mieście Puri w Indiach . W chwili obecnej Ratha Jatra (zaraz po Kubhameli) uważana jest za największy festiwal religijny na świecie. Tego dnia bóstwa Kryszny znane jako Dźagannath, Subhadra i Baladewa opuszczają wnętrze świątyni i po umieszczeniu ich na ogromnych, barwnie udekorowanych wozach z charakterystycznymi kopułami (dochodzącymi do 15 metrów wysokości) przewożone są po ulicach miasta w barwnej procesji. Paradzie towarzyszy śpiew i taniec wyznawców, rozrzuca się kwiaty i prezenty oraz rozdawane jest pożywienie. Wozy ciągnione są za pomocą lin przez setki tysięcy pielgrzymów. Zaś drogę przed „Panem Wszechświata” (tak brzmi dokładne tłumaczenie imienia Bóstw) zamiata miotłą na złotym kiju, sam monarcha Orisy.

ISKCON z powodzeniem przeniósł tą wielowiekową tradycję ulicznych procesji z wizerunkami Bóstw Dżaganath do krajów cywilizacji zachodniej. Pierwsza tego typu uroczystość odbyła się w San Francisco już w 1967 roku.

Obecnie Radha Jatra obchodzona jest m.in. w Nowym Jorku, Londynie, Paryżu, Durbanie, Berlinie, Moskwie, Kalkucie czy Sydney.

Obchodzenie świąt liturgicznych jest ważnym komponentem praktyk duchowych współczesnych wyznawców Kryszny. Stanowi ono bezpośrednie nawiązanie do religijno- kulturowej tradycji waisznawizmu. Mające zazwyczaj wyjątkowo uroczystą i zarazem barwną oprawę, święta religijne upamiętniają najczęściej wydarzenia z życia Kryszny lub wielkich świętych waisznawizmu.

Zgodnie ze starożytną tradycją, daty świąt ustalane są na podstawie kalendarza księżycowego, co sprawia, iż mają one charakter ruchomy.

W dniach świątecznych wyznawcy Kryszny gromadzą się w bogato udekorowanych świątyniach, gdzie rozbrzmiewa muzyka sakralna i pieśni religijne. Przy takich okazjach wystawia się też tradycyjne przedstawienia teatralne oraz organizuje pokazy tańca indyjskiego. Charakterystyczny dla wszelkich świąt jest okresowy post zakończony wegetariańską ucztą. Do najważniejszych świąt liturgicznych, prócz wspomnianej już Ratha Yatry, obchodzonych współcześnie przez członków ISKCONu należą:

Kryszna Dźanmastami (przełom sierpnia i września) — narodziny Kryszny

Rama-Navami (przełom marca i kwietnia) — dzień, w którym czci się urodziny Ramaćandry (Ramy), inkarnacji Kryszny, wzoru władcy i rycerza

Gaura Purnima (przełom lutego i marca) — rocznica urodzin Śri Ćajtańji Mahaprabhu

Ratha-Yatra or Chariot Parade is an ancient festival, celebrated by countless pilgrims in the end of July and in the beginning of August in holy city Puri in India. Recently Ratha-Yatra is claimed to be one of the biggest religious festivals in the world, after Kumbhamela. On the day of the festival god Krishna with his brother an sister, called Jagannatha, Balabhadra and Subhadra, leave the temple and they are carried in the streets of the city in the picturesque parade, on big, colourfully decorated chariots with characteristic domes, which can be 15 meters high. The parade is accompanied by dancing and singing devotees, and flowers, food and gifts are distributed among people. Chariots are towed by hundred thousands of pilgrims with the help of ropes. Maharaj of Orisa sweeps the way before the chariot of The Lord of the Universe – Jagannatha with the broomstick on golden stick.

ISKCON successfully transferred the ancient tradition of street parades with icons of Jagannatha to the Western countries. First parade took place in San Francisco in 1967. Ratha-Yatra is celebrated nowadays a. o. in New York, London, Paris, Durban, Berlin, Moscow, Calcuta or Sydney.

The religious feasts are important parts of spiritual practise of contemporary devotees of Krishna. They are directly connected to the religious and cultural tradition of Vaishnavism. Celebrations commemorate famous events from life of Krishna or great holy men of Vaishnavism, therefore they have very rich, solemn setting.

On festive days devotees are gathered in luxury decorated temples, accompanied by sacral songs and music. There are performed traditional theatre plays and Indian dances. A part of every celebration is the temporary fast, ended with a big vegetarian feast.

The most important celebrations, apart of Ratha-Yatra, are:
Krishna Janmastami /end of August and beginning of September/ – birthday of Krishna;
Rama-Navami /end of March and beginnig of April/ – birthday of Ramacandra, incarnation of Krishna;
Gaura Purnimi /end of February and beginnig of March/ – birthday of Sri Cajtanja

Jagannatha Puri is approximately 60km from Orissa’s state capital, Bhubaneswar. It is considered by many Hindus to be one of the four holiest places (dhamas) and is particularly revered by Vaisnavas as the home of Krishna in His form of Jagannatha, Lord of the Universe, as well as being the site of many of the pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
Puri is also known as ‘Sri Purusottama Dhama’ or ‘Martya Vaikuntha’, the abode of Lord Visnu on earth. Other names are Sriksetra (best of all sacred centres), Purusottama Ksetra (the abode of the supreme being), Nilachal, Nalagiri, Sankha Ksetra, and Jagannatha Dhama.

The Temple of Lord Jagannatha is one of the major temples in India. The worship of Lord Jagannatha is so ancient that there is no accurate record of how long it has been going on. It is strictly forbidden for non-Hindus to enter the Jagannatha temple.

Sri Ramanuja visited Puri between 1107 and 1117 AD and stayed for some time. Visnuswami visited Puri in the second half of the 12th century and established a matha near Markandeswar Tank, called Vishnuswami Matha. Nimbarka Acarya also made a pilgrimage to Puri, and Srila Prabhupada visited in January 1977.
A major reason that Puri is so important to Gaudiya Vaisnavas is because Lord Caitanya spent so much time here. Many of His pastimes with His most intimate associates took place at in this area.

Puri Highlights

Lord Jagannatha Temple

The present temple structure was built in the 12th century by King Choda Ganga Deva, replacing an earlier structure, which probably dated to the 10th century. There were other temples prior to these.
Once a year Lord Jagannatha, along with His brother, Baladeva, and sister, Subhadra, are taken out of the temple and pulled on huge chariots through the streets of Puri. It is from these huge chariots that the English word ‘juggernaut’ comes. Millions of devotees attend this festival every year, including the King of Puri, who sweeps the path in front of Lord Jagganatha’s cart.

Until recently, almost the entire temple was covered in white plaster, so much so that European sailors in previous centuries used it as a navigation point, referring to it as the ‘White Pagoda’ in contrast to the ‘Black Pagoda’ of Konarak, further up the coast.

Gundicha Mandir (Temple)

This temple, about 3km northeast of the Jagannatha temple, is the home of Lord Jagannatha for one week a year during the Ratha-Yatra festival. After this week He returns to His original temple. It is said that the wife of Indradyumna, the king who originally established the temple of Jagannatha, was known as Gundicha. The cleansing of the takes place the day before the Ratha-Yatra festival and is elaborately described in Sri Caitanya-caritamrta.
Non-Hindus can walk within the walls and see the beautiful garden, but they are not allowed in the temple building.

Breslauer Tempel (Polen) mit Nama-hatta-Gottgeweihtern bereitet sich seit ein paar Monaten zu dem außergewöhnlichen Festival in der Geschichte unserer Vaisnava-Gesellschaft zu, und nämlich zu dem ersten Festival des Ratya-Yatra in Polen – das Festival vom Herrn Jagannath.

Das Ratha-Yatra Festival hat schon lange Tradition in Indien. Es stammt aus Puri in Orissa, wo sich der weltbekannte Jagannatha-Tempel befindet.

Die Legende macht bekannt, dass die Statue vom Herrn Jaganath nach Königswunsch vom mythischen göttlichen Bildhauer Vishwakarma geschaffen wurde.

Vishwakarma verlangte, dass niemand ihn während seiner Arbeit stören sollte.

Der ungeduldige König brach das Verbot und trat ins Vishwakarmas Arbeitszimmer. Der Bildhauer war verschwunden. Es blieben nur ein bisschen behaute Holzblöcke.

Der König Indradyumna – sehr großer Gottgeweihter – bat die Gestalten fertig zu bemalen und brachte sie in den speziell für sie gebauten Tempel unter, wo sie, in so einer Form, seit Tausendjahren bis heute verehrt sind.

Seit ein paar Jahren denken Devotees darüber nach, so ein Festival des Ratha-Yatra in Polen zu veranstalten.
Ihr wisst schon bestimmt, dass das auch die Stimmung von Indradyumna Maharaja ist, der das Ratha Yatra während des Woodstock-Festivals selbst organisiert.

Um die Tradition zu folgen, und auch mit dem Wunsch, das Festival auch für polnische Devotees wichtig zu machen, wollen wir Euch alle zu den Vorbereitungen, zur Organisierung, und selbst zur Teilnahme am Festival einladen. Es findet in Breslau auf dem Marktplatz, den 13. Juni 2009 statt.

Wir hoffen, dies Ereignis, das die seelische fröhliche und reiche Indienkultur in so einer schönen Form zeigt, wird schon für immer jedes Jahr in Breslau organisiert. Es wird das gesamtpolnische Ereignis und auch sehr wichtiges für alle Devotees.

Ausser ganzer Prozession, Musik und dem Tanz wollen wir Euch das Kunstprogramm auf der Bühne präsentieren. In den Zelten wird die Gelegenheit, wegetarische indische Küche zu probieren.

Besonders möchten wir uns bei dem Breslauer Stadtsbehörde für die Offenheit für unsere Veranstaltung und bei dem indischen Botschafter für die Protektion bedanken

Unser Wunsch ist, dieses seelische Ereignis für jede Devotee in Polen und auch für die Person, die Krsna mag, wichtig zu machen.

Zur Teilnahme wurden auch unsere Gurus eingeladen.

Devotees aus Breslau und der Gegend begannen schon die Zusammenarbeit. Wir sammelten schon ein Team, das aus vielen Departementen besteht, die sich mit verschiedenen Diensten beschäftigen.

Unser Brief richten wir nicht nur nach allen Devotees, Anhängern, aber auch nach Leaders von Nama-Hatta-Zentren, die das Festival unterstützen können, indem sie es regional veranstalten. Für die Nama-hatta-gemeinschaften möchten wir etwas vorschlagen.

Es ist klar, dass man Fonds und Spenden braucht, um das Festival veranstalten zu können. Deswegen werden wir sehr dankbar, wenn ihr andere dazu aufmundern könntet. Das wäre eine grosse Hilfe. Vielleicht kennt ihr jemanden, der auf andere Art und Weise helfen könnte. Wir wären sehr dankbar.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu war am meisten zufrieden, als er gesehen hat, dass viele Vaisnava-Devotees miteinander zum Krishnas Vergnügen gearbeitet haben und den Heiligen Namen und Prasadam verteilt haben. Auch Śrila Prabhupada hat uns es mit eigenem Beispiel gelehrt. Wir wissen, wie das Festival für ihn wichtig war und auch wie er froh war, als er die daran teilnehmenden Devotees gesehen hat. So ist auch unsere Stimmung. Deswegen bitten wir alle Vaisnava-Devotees, am Festival teilzunehmen und auch finanziell dabei zu helfen. Auf diese Art und Weise helft ihr uns, Gauranga und Nityananda Prabhu, Śrila Prabhupada und anderen Devotees zu befriedigen.

Das Programm

14.30 – 17.30 Die Prozession der Deities mit einem Festivalswagen, der von Teilnehmern von der Swidnicka-strasse bis zum Marktplatz, und dann um ihn gezogen wird. Es werden die Pausen, in denen Prasadam (Opferspeisen) verteilt wird.

Wroclaw temple along with Nama Hatta devotees since a few months have been preparing a special Festival in the history of our Vaisnava community, namely first Polish Ratha Yatra- Festival of Lord Jaganatha.
As you know, this Festival has a very ancient tradition in India. It comes from Puri in Orissa where the temple of Lord Jaganatha – known all around the world – is situated.

The legend says that the statues of Jaganatha were made by a mythical sculptor of gods – Visvakarma on the request of king of Orissa – Indradyumna. However he made a condition that no one can see the statues until they are entirely ready. An impatient king broke the condition and entered Visvakarma’s workshop. The sculptor disappeared leaving roughly carved logs of wood. King Indradyumna – a great devotee of Krsna – asked that the unfinished statues are painted. Then he placed them in a temple which was built for them. There they have been worshipped in that form for thousands of years until that day.

Since a few years many devotees have been meditating that such a Festival of Chariots takes place in Poland as well.
You may also know that this is Indradyumna Maharaja’s mood who included Ratha Yatra in an annual Woodstock Festival.
We wish to follow the spirit and continue the tradition as well as make this festival important for the Polish community of devotees. Therefore we invite all of you to participate in preparation and organizing, as well as the very Festival which will take place in the Wroclaw Old Town Square, on 13 June 2009.

This event very beautifully presents particularly rich and joyful, spiritual culture of India. We hope it will make a permanent impact on the history of not only this town but it will also stand a chance of becoming an event of the national importance – an event significant for all devotees.
Apart from the very parade, music and dance, we will also present an artistic program on stage and in the tents next to it one will be able to taste vegetarian cuisine of India.
We would like to especially thank local authorities of Wroclaw for being open to such an enterprise and to the Ambassador of India for being a patron of this Festival.
We have a deep desire that this spiritual event becomes significant for every devotee in Poland or any person who likes Krsna. We have also invited our spiritual masters to participate in this event.
Devotees from Wroclaw and the nearby area have already started to organize the festival. We are at this point building a team constructed of many departments, which will deal with the respective services.
We address our letter to all devotees, friends and well-wishers, as well as to the leaders of the individual Nama Hatta centers who can support this Festival (also by organizing oneself in local groups). We have made some suggestions for the centers.

Information for Donors

In regards to the planned event of such an importance, we invite cultural institutions, including those connected with the culture of India, Media, as well as companies and individuals.
The Festival is being organized by the members of the International Society for Krsna Consciousness along with the Embassy of India and Hindu community. We will have an honor to host an Ambassador of India in Poland and a few eminent guests.

An event is being fully financed by the means and donations obtained from donors.
A logo and name of the company, donating the festival, will be placed on all the banners, posters and leaflets of our festival.

Therefore we encourage everyone to support funds of the festival.

Lord Caitanya was the most pleased when he saw many hundreds of devotees cooperating with each other for the pleasure of Krsna, giving out the Holy Name and prasadam. Srila Prabhupada was teaching us this by his own example. We know how the Ratha Yatra Festival was dear to him and how he was happy seeing devotees participating in it.
This is also our mood and in this spirit we request all the Vaisnavas to take part in it and help us to satisfy Lord Gauranga and Lord Nityananda, Srila Prabhupada and devotees. You can either accept the invitation and participate in the festival or donate it or help in any other way.
